Too Many Overripe Bananas? 5 Quick Solutions You'll Love
After winning over the American public, the banana has become a daily staple in many people’s diets. Whether the banana is chosen as a quick snack, used for desserts, or a go-to addition with a bowl of oatmeal or cereal, we don’t think too much about this tropical fruit.
The banana became Americanized.
We could say that the banana is taken for granted because it is ubiquitous in our society. Many of us might thing that bananas will always be available because they are cheap, affordable, and stocked at nearly all grocery stores throughout the US.
However, this colorful tropical fruit has been battling than more than a few problems over the decades, following their widespread popularity.
The bananas we commonly see at stores are dealing with health problems and climate change. Plus, limiting the variety of bananas available for widespread consumption have taken its toll.
Knowing this, it might be more than a nagging feeling to eventually do something with a bunch of bananas going ripe faster than we can use them up or eat them.
So, what to do?
First, throw bananas in the freezer if they look like they about to head to the rubbish bin. Do this to reduce food waste and buy yourself and your bananas some time for the right recipe.
Let’s face it. You want to do what you can to avoid having to interact with brown, mushy bananas head-on.
Because gross.
We eat with our eyes and prefer attractive, appealing looking bananas. (Pun intended.)
Sorry, but saying that those ugly looking spots are just sugar DOESN’T make it any easier or palatable to eat an overripe banana that looks and feels like THAT.
See that spoiled looking, mushy, heavily spotted banana. You want me to eat what? No thank you.
If you don’t think you’re going to use your bananas for a few days and they are becoming super overripe, throw them in the freezer before it’s too late. It really works.
When you are ready to use your frozen banana, run each one under the sink tap with running water for a few seconds. Next, grab a paring knife and quickly slice of the thick peel, revealing the fruit.
What if your bananas are ripe but look like they could hold out for a few more days before they reach the point of no return?
